An event timed to the International Day of Holocaust Victims will be held in Minsk

UN Office in Belarus and “Holocaust Republican Foundation” Non-Governmental Organization will carry out an event devoted to the International Day of Holocaust Victims. The event will be held in Minsk on January 27. 

The representative of UN in Belarus Antonius Broek, representatives from the Ministry of Education and the Committee on Affairs of Religions and National Minorities, and also former ghetto prisoners will speak at the event. Teachers and school students from the Belarusian schools of Minsk, Grodno, Brest, and Vitebsk regions, who are involved in studying the Holocaust issues in Belarus, will take part in the event.
 
More than 900 thousand Belarusian Jews (one fourth of them – children) were murdered during World War II. Two orphanages perished in the Minsk ghetto only. Many children were murdered in the vehicle-gas-chambers or shot. More than 35 thousand of children were killed in special children’s concentration camps.
