Hot line against human trafficking helped to repatriate 108 Belarusians

The project has been implemented since 2003 by the Business Ladies Club NGO (Brest) under the support of the International Organization for Migration in Belarus. 

The main goal of the project is to inform people on the issues of safe travel and stay abroad, rendering help to the victims of human trafficking and their families. The hot line workers help to acquire reliable information on the compatriots who have got into trouble abroad, and then submit such information to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.
 
MTC and Velcom subscribers may call, free of charge, to 8-801-201-5555 telephone number; there is an access to 113 uncoded short number from fixed phones in Brest, Grodno, and Gomel regions. Information is also distributed via e-mail.
 
During eight years of operation, as many as 14 thousand telephone calls were received, 69% of them – from women. Those who call are interested in the issues such as employment abroad, safe travel abroad and risk to become a victim of human trafficking, useful addresses and telephone numbers abroad, making friends with the foreigners, international marriages and rights of spouses within the same.
 
Also victims of human trafficking apply for help.
 
Rehabilitation and reintegration assistance was rendered to 258 compatriots. All information is given by the hot line workers free of charge and on the basis of anonymity.
